Our gifts make room at the table for others.
Every Sunday, we come to Christ’s table alongside people whose stories we may not yet know.
Here are some of our voices from our pews.
When I first wanted to get involved with Tender Mercies, it was pretty simple: I just wanted to help people experiencing homelessness. Whenever I see someone who is struggling or doesn’t have a place to live, I feel for them and just want to do as much as I possibly can to make a difference.
I think it is awesome for kids my age to get involved in a ministry like this. If you teach kids to serve and give back right now, we’re going to keep doing it on our own as we grow up. It helps us build a good habit for the rest of our lives.
When we did a quiz on spiritual gifts, my highest ones were serving, ministering, and giving. To me, serving means stepping up to help someone who really needs your time, talent, or treasure. It’s about sharing with someone who doesn’t have the things I might even have too much of. Jesus said that whenever we feed the hungry or help someone in need, we are actually serving Him, which makes the work even more important.
Plus, the people we serve really start to notice you! One time I couldn’t make it, and they asked where I was. It showed me that just showing up matters to them. If I had to tell another kid why they should come help out at Tender Mercies, I’d tell them that helping someone who needs it just makes you feel really good inside.
