Since earlier this year in the season of Lent, the Staff has been discerning how to depict the life and ministry of Calvary Parish in a compelling way that tells the story of who we are, our life together, and our mission and vision. As a result, the Mural of Ministry has begun to take shape at Calvary in Hannaford Hall.
Organist and Choirmaster Howard Helvey has faithfully captured and compiled hundreds of headshots of parishioners and action shots of life in ministry at Calvary. Parish Administrator Judy Gardner has been curating quotations from members about life and ministry at Calvary, along with conceptualizing how to best utilize the walls of Hannaford Hall to display our life together as a parish. This past week, the Staff gathered for our annual staff retreat, sorting photos and beginning to put together the visual representation of the mural.
At its heart, the Mural of Ministry is a reminder that everyone has a place at Calvary. As Paul writes to the Corinthians, “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Each face, each story, each act of service or song of praise is part of something greater than any one of us could create alone.
This mural is not static but living. Just as our parish continues to grow and welcome new people, there is room on the wall for new faces, new stories, and new visions of ministry. We hope that when you look upon the mural, you will see not only your own place in the story of Calvary but also the invitation to imagine what God might yet do among us.
In this way, the Mural of Ministry is both a celebration of who we are and a signpost of who we are becoming—a living testimony that “we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another” (Romans 12:5).
We invite you to stop by Hannaford Hall and spend some time with the Mural of Ministry as it takes shape in the coming weeks. See the faces, read the ministry quips, and notice how God’s Spirit is moving among us. If your photo or your voice is not yet included, there is room for you—because the story of Calvary Parish is not complete without your presence.
