Calvary Community Hour every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. | Calvary Episcopal Church, Cincinnati
in the Discipleship Center and Hannaford Hall
At Calvary, we believe Christian community is for all ages—including our youngest members. Calvary Community Hour is a weekly opportunity for children, youth, and adults alike to connect, grow in faith, and explore meaningful questions together.
This summer, we’re offering something for everyone.
Held every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. between services, Calvary Community Hour invites you to come as you are and bring your curiosity. Each week offers something unique—engaging discussions, spiritual exploration, hymn singing, and opportunities to build relationships rooted in compassion and shared faith. The sessions in the Discipleship Center are geared towards adults.
However, all ages are welcome to participate in the Discipleship Center, and families with children will find thoughtful programming designed just for them. The nursery is open, and Children and Families Minister Sally Engelbert will lead the Summer Stories craft—a creative and reflective craft time for children in Hannaford Hall, helping them grow in faith following the lectionary-based storytelling they experience in the 9:15 a.m. Family Service.
Upcoming Topics:
- July 20 – Exploring Christian Nationalism
What is Christian Nationalism, and how does it threaten both democracy and the integrity of the Christian faith? In this session, we’ll engage the ChurchNext curriculum featuring Jim Wallis—public theologian, founder of Sojourners, and author of Christ in Crisis. Through insightful video teaching and guided discussion, we’ll examine how Christian Nationalism distorts the gospel, turning faith into a tool for political power rather than a path of love, justice, and humility.
Together, we’ll reflect on how our faith calls us to resist these distortions and instead live out a public witness rooted in the teachings of Jesus. We’ll also explore how this conversation relates to recent developments—such as the IRS decision to allow churches to endorse partisan candidates—and why Calvary and the Diocese of Southern Ohio firmly reject the practice of politicizing the pulpit.
- July 27 – Exploring the Trinity
Join Rex Van Alstine for a thoughtful and accessible exploration of the doctrine of the Trinity. How can we understand God as three-in-one, and what does this mean for how we live and relate to one another? - August 3 – Education for Ministry (EfM) Info & Recruitment Session
Learn about this enriching four-year program of theological study, scripture engagement, and spiritual reflection. Whether you’re curious or ready to enroll, this session will help you discern your next step. - Later this summer, dates to be announced: Hymn Singing with Howard Helvey; “What are they thinking?” Part II, an exploration of different ethical and moral positions on same-sex marriage.
Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or looking to go deeper, Calvary Community Hour has a place for you. Join us—we’d love to grow with you.
