Have you ever wondered what it feels like to step right into a living history book? If you look inside our parish hall on any given Tuesday evening, you might just find out.
Born from a simple idea back in 1995, the Forget-Me-Not Historical Dance Company has slowly developed into a vibrant performing and teaching entity right here in our community. We are a dedicated group of amateurs whose shared love of historical dance has taken us on incredible journeys—from performing across the Midwest to traveling all the way to Italy.
As our troupe grew over the years, we rehearsed wherever we could find a pocket of space in the city. The old SCPA, various local studios, and the Columbia Tusculum Art Center all graciously hosted us at one time or another. However, a wonderful invitation from the priest of Calvary Episcopal Church eventually led us to our true home. Today, we are incredibly grateful to call Calvary our official practice and home space.
Led by parishioner Steve Percer, our troupe researches, preserves, and teaches American social dances spanning the century from 1820 to 1920. Our goal is to place these beautiful art forms back into the context of local historical settings and events. After all, this regional history belongs to all of us! You may have even caught our lively performance of traditional period dancing during Calvary’s recent Shrove Tuesday celebration.
We perform regularly throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, but we always love sharing the joy of dance with our immediate neighbors. We welcome anyone to come slip into the back of the room and watch us practice any Tuesday evening as we work up “new” old dances. Whether you are an interested beginner or just love history, we especially welcome audience participation at our events. Come see history in motion!
